Secondary Membership Benefits
Supporting students begins with supporting their schools. When districts and schools implement the AVID College Readiness System, they join a professional team of educators passionate about meeting the needs of students and receive quality materials and ongoing assistance in a wide range of areas. AVID member districts initially receive intensive support from on-site consultants and continued ongoing support for all district directors. AVID districts are given access to AVID Center’s public relations department to assist with publicity, presentations, and coaching on legislative outreach.
AVID membership entitles a school to access AVID’s online critical reading resource AVID Weekly; receive coaching and support by AVID staff; receive AVID publications; reproduce AVID student worksheets; participate in site certification, comparative data collection and analysis; have limited use of AVID’s logo and intellectual property; and access a members-only website with electronic resources for staff development and learning.
Additional advantages for AVID campuses include the following:
Curriculum Resources and Training
AVID members are given teacher-developed resource guides and student materials to support the AVID Elective class that are student-focused, based on best teaching practices, and support state and national content standards. Curriculum also includes content-area, college-prep teacher guides and student materials that model content literacy skills in science, mathematics, history/social science, and language arts, for both regular and advanced courses, including AP/IB and Honors. In addition, a teacher guide for English language learners is available. Curriculum updates are provided via CD as new materials are developed.
AVID offers a variety of resources to enhance and expand the AVID System. AVID STEM- Math & Science Summer Bridge Program builds a STEM foundation for 7th-10th grade students. Enhance critical reading skills with AVID Weekly news, lesson plans, and more. Accelerate middle school English language learners with AVID Excel.
Along with online training modules and resources, all of AVID’s professional training opportunities are available to AVID members. Annually, Summer Institute provides thorough training of AVID educators across the nation. AVID’s National Conference for superintendents, school board members, district administrators, and other educational leaders, is an informational forum held once a year. AVID Path to Schoolwide trainings for subject-area teachers at AVID schools, as well as How to Make Your Data Work for You, and Leadership for College Readiness administrator trainings take place throughout the year.
Members are granted entry to AVID’s secure online community that includes file sharing classroom materials and curriculum resources with access to downloadable lessons, forms, PowerPoint presentations, data collection materials, and other resources. Some online trainings are available to support tutors, site coordinators, and directors. Plus, AVID members have access to easy online registration for all AVID Center trainings.
Data Analysis Reporting and Student Results
AVID members have access to customized, comparative reports at multiple levels: overall, state, province, district and school. Web-based data collection, reporting, and certification promote quality assurance and fidelity for the AVID System. Student curricula support is also available for national/state testing (PSAT, SAT, ACT), both in test preparation and expansion of participation in the exams. In addition, a supply of materials and coaching for student academic competitions, recognition models, and national scholarships are obtainable.
Materials and support are available for developing partnerships, expanding resources and funds for AVID with federal initiatives such as APIP, NCLB, CRSD, GEAR UP. Detailed information about AVID’s alignment with state initiatives and mandates, and other funding components are available to AVID members.
