4/11/2013 189 AVID Students Accepted into the Dell Scholars Program - Scholarships recognize students’ drive and determination
SAN DIEGO – AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) students made up almost two thirds of the 300 students in the recently named Dell Scholars Program Class of 2013. More than $6 million in scholarships will be awarded to this year’s Dell Scholars to attend a college of their choice. Nationwide, 189 of the Dell Scholars participated in AVID.

SAN DIEGO – This school year marks the 15th anniversary of the AVID College Readiness System in Texas. In just 15 years, AVID has expanded from eight high schools in the San Antonio Independent School District to the current 897 schools or institutions across the state (724 secondary schools, 156 elementary schools, and 17 colleges/universities).

SAN DIEGO- Houston Endowment has sponsored a collaborative between Rice University and AVID Center to address the need for a successful college readiness system in Houston’s schools. This collaborative is helping 10 Houston-area school districts prepare students for postsecondary success, especially traditionally underrepresented student populations.
11/14/2012 AVID Develops Math and Science Summer Bridge Programs to Improve Student Achievement in STEM Fields
SAN DIEGO - The AVID Math and Science Summer Bridge programs are products of a grant project to strengthen AVID’s support for student achievement in math and science. Each program is composed of 15 four-hour units, usually taught over a three-week period, and is filled with high-engagement, collaborative lessons and solid math or science content connected to national math and science standards. The Summer Bridge Programs encourage student acceleration and interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) courses and fields.
