    ACHIEVING STANDARDS THROUGH AVID METHODOLOGIES

  • AVID AND THE COMMON CORE STANDARDS

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are a set of rigorous state standards in mathematics and English language arts that can be achieved though AVID methodologies. AVID trains teachers to help all students access rigorous content. While the CCSS describes “what” students should know, AVID strategies provide “how” students will learn and master the knowledge and skills needed to meet the standards. AVID establishes a solid foundation of literacy skills and builds in scaffolds to increase rigor levels in grades K–12. The inquiry-based AVID system teaches students to think critically as they solve problems and rise to educational challenges.
