Nov 05, 2026 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM Central Standard Time
Event Focus:
This interactive workshop will give AVID Elective teachers practical strategies and tools they can immediately use to strengthen their Elective classroom and improve student outcomes. Participants will:
• Strengthen tutorials: Analyze current tutorial practices, and identify specific ways to increase student ownership, questioning, collaboration, and academic rigor.
• Use continuous improvement: Apply the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle to identify a specific area of need, test a strategy, examine its effectiveness, and make adjustments for future tutorials.
• Refresh their AVID Elective instruction: Use the updated AVID Weeks at a Glance to examine current practices and identify opportunities to strengthen instruction, pacing, and student learning.
• Improve diagnostic teaching: Practice using diagnostic teaching strategies to identify what students need and intentionally adjust instruction to better support college and career readiness.
• Leave with an action plan: Identify specific next steps they can implement in their AVID Elective based on their students’ needs and their current level of implementation.
