Dr. Aliber Lozano joined AVID Center in 2004 as a specialist in the Texas AVID office. Since then, he has held various leadership roles across the organization, bringing more than 20 years of direct AVID experience and more than 29 years in education to his work.
Before joining AVID Center, Aliber worked at the University of Texas-Pan American with several college preparation programs. As Special Projects Coordinator for GEAR UP, a grant-funded university program, he was instrumental in securing a partnership with the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation to support AVID implementation in multiple school districts. This collaboration helped introduce and establish the partnership between AVID Center and the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation.
His professional experience spans K–12, higher education, and national nonprofit leadership. He has taught in public schools in the Lower Rio Grande Valley in South Texas as a middle school and high school language arts teacher, theatre arts director, and varsity swim coach. His AVID experience includes serving as a high school language arts AVID Site Team member, middle school AVID Elective teacher and coordinator, regional AVID District Director, AVID Staff Developer, and AVID Center leader.
In his graduate and postgraduate work, he collaborated with other researchers and published research on college readiness, an area of deep personal and professional passion. As a first-generation college graduate and the son of a Mexican immigrant father with a third-grade education and a mother with an eighth-grade education, Aliber is personally driven to ensure that all students have access to meaningful college and career readiness opportunities.
As Head of Enhanced Products and Services, Aliber oversees products and services that accelerate and amplify AVID core products. His work focuses on designing, improving, and supporting products, programs, professional learning events, and services that meaningfully advance educator practice, student success, and family engagement.
