Professional Learning Sessions

This session will introduce participants to the AVID Foundations of Instruction (FOI), a five-part, comprehensive structure that supports strong lesson design and a truly student-centered classroom. The Foundations of Instruction represent AVID’s most current thinking around instruction and extend far beyond WICOR and instructional strategies. In addition to exploring each element of the FOI, participants will consider how to apply each element when designing professional learning, offering feedback to educators, and building a unified approach to improving teaching and learning across a campus or school district.

Multilingual learners enrich schools with their diverse strengths, yet many encounter barriers that limit their opportunities. This collaborative session invites district and site leaders to explore four key shifts: creating supportive learning environments, strengthening relationships that build belonging, using strategic lesson design to scaffold rigorous learning, and leading with an asset-based approach that honors students’ language and identity. Participants will leave with clear, practical next steps to strengthen systems where multilingual learners can thrive.
