AVID 101

This year, we are offering an optional AVID 101 pre-session for attendees new to AVID on Monday, July 6, from 4:00–5:30 pm at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio River Walk, Texas A. Please be sure to bring your computer or approved device (see laptop requirements section) to the session.

Leading Site Teams

The Leading Site Teams pre-session for site and district leaders is on Monday, July 6, from 4:00–5:30 pm at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio River Walk, Texas B. Learn more about Leading Site Teams.

Join us for an inspiring session featuring students and educators on Wednesday, July 8, from 1:30–2:45 pm at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Exhibit Hall 1.

The San Antonio Summer Institute takes place across two venues. Your Community of Practice, Site Team meeting, General Session, and hotel may be at different locations. To find out each event’s location, log in to the AVID Event app with your MyAVID credentials or check your printed badge prior to the event.

Your name badge is required for all Summer Institute activities. There are two ways to get your name badge: print at home or print on-site. Pick up your lanyard at your CoP room on Day 1.

Important Reminder

Your Community of Practice is listed first because that is where you will begin your day. The second listing is your Site Team location.

Note for Day 1:

• Go directly to your CoP location by 8:00 am.
• A grab-and-go breakfast will be available near your CoP.
• You will receive a lanyard and badge holder at your CoP location.

A grab-and-go breakfast will be provided near your Community of Practice location on the first day of Summer Institute. As a reminder, refer to your name badge for your Community of Practice location. We also provide morning coffee breaks each day and an afternoon break on Day 2.

AVID has negotiated group rates for participants provided through the button below. While the majority of our partner hotels offer complimentary Wi-Fi and other amenities, we recommend verifying at the time of check-in. It is the participant’s responsibility to make, change, or cancel hotel and airfare reservations. Hotel and airfare reservations do not guarantee registration for an event.

Hotel Room Reservations

When you reserve hotel rooms, you will be required to create an account for the individual or group hotel reservations. The password that you create for your account will be required to confirm, change, update, or cancel any room reservations. Refer to your confirmation email for important deadline dates that may financially impact you. A credit card will be required to hold your room reservation(s).

Hotel room rates start at $205 per night. The specified room rate is based on single occupancy before taxes and fees. Additional occupants may incur additional fees. See detailed information about room rates on the housing site.

Parking at the San Antonio Convention Center

The Henry B. González Convention Center is located at 900 E Market St., San Antonio, TX 78205. AVID attendees can park at the following locations:

• Convention Center Garage at 41 Bowie St., San Antonio, TX 78205, for a daily rate of $10 a day.
• Grand Hyatt San Antonio River Walk at 600 E. Market St., San Antonio, TX 78205, for a daily rate of $39.60 plus tax. Valet is available for $59 plus tax.

Additional locations in the city include:

• Shops at Rivercenter Garage at 849 E. Commerce St., San Antonio, TX 78205, for a daily rate of $30.
• Riverbend Garage at 400 E. Commerce St., San Antonio, TX 78205, for a daily rate of $25.
• Market Street Garage at 421 W. Market St., San Antonio, TX 78205, for a daily rate of $25.
• Conv. Sports Fac. Lot 1 & 2 at 637 S. Tower of the Americas Way, San Antonio, TX 78205, for a daily rate of $30. Please note that there is no overnight parking at this location.

Parking Locator App

San Antonio has launched a downtown parking locator app. This free parking locator app helps motorists find parking using their smartphone’s location. The app includes parking rates and current availability for all downtown parking locations. The app is available for iOS and Android devices and is free and secure. Download the SAPark app from your mobile app store or by visiting SAPark.

Public Transit

VIA Metropolitan Transit provides regional multimodal transportation options that connect community to opportunity, support economic vitality, and enhance quality of life throughout the region. A $2.75 Day Pass gives you unlimited rides all day (available on the bus), a single trip is just $1.30, or a 7-Day Pass can be purchased for only $12. You can download the free mobile app.

You can utilize Go Rio Shuttle Service. Look for the Go Rio Shuttle signs that are located throughout the River Walk downtown and on the Museum Reach. Boats are labeled with Go Rio Shuttle signs. Shuttle service begins at 10:00 am. There are no scheduled pickups or drop-offs. Shuttles run approximately every 45 minutes.

San Antonio B-Cycle is an automated bike-sharing system intended for short trips and quick adventures. B-stations are located throughout downtown San Antonio in highly visible and trafficked areas. Ride a B-Cycle and check it back in to any B-Station within 30 minutes. The clock starts when you undock. Dock and undock at any B-station before 30 minutes expire to reset your clock. Visit SanAntonio.bcycle.com to purchase an annual membership, 24-hour day pass, or 7-day pass.

Car Services

When the weather is inclement, a taxi or car service may offer a convenient option. A number of ride-sharing services are available in San Antonio, including Uber and Lyft, as well as a taxi service from zTrip, which is available via the zTrip app, website, or by phone.

Participation Policy

Our professional learning opportunities are engaging and rigorous, and therefore, are best suited for distraction-free spaces. Each professional learning experience is designed for individual engagement. Only one participant per registration may attend.

We love children; however, participants may not bring children or guests to AVID Professional Learning, General Session, or Site Team meetings. Only invited AVID students and invited AVID guests may participate.

In order to receive your Digital Badge, you must complete the following:

• Submit all daily feedback forms, the participant reflection, and the exit survey before the end of the last training day.
• Attend all sessions and engage in the course activities. 100% attendance is required.
• Contribute to your Community of Practice by being an active participant in all sessions.
