NEW STRANDS FOR 2019
AVID Elementary: STEM
This strand creates the foundation for showing participants how to support, encourage, and empower STEM literacy for all students. The STEM Elementary strand offers our partners professional learning that can be taken back to the classroom to provide students in grades 3–5 with rigorous, multidisciplinary, hands-on STEM experiences.
Reading for Disciplinary Literacy: A Schoolwide Approach
This strand focuses on implementing research-based reading practices across all content areas and grade levels to promote a schoolwide approach to disciplinary literacy. This strand is ideal for educators who want to increase the level of academic rigor and discourse in their classrooms through literacy to further student learning.
Digital Teaching and Learning—Foundations: Elementary
This strand brings elementary educators together to experience and explore digital strategies and resources appropriate for students in grades 3–6. This strand is designed to support experienced AVID Elementary teachers in blending WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading) with digital strategies to prepare students with the skills they need to be college and career ready.
Digital Teaching and Learning—Advancing: Google
Participants will use AVID’s digital learning framework, the 4 A’s (Adopt, Adapt, Accelerate and Advocate), to define a pathway toward meaningfully integrating digital strategies that leverage G-Suite for Education apps, Chrome extensions, and WICOR for the purpose of enhancing and extending student learning. This strand integrates Google-specific technology with AVID methodologies to prepare students with key skills they will need in the 21st century to be college and career ready.
Digital Teaching and Learning—Advancing: Microsoft
This strand integrates Microsoft-specific technology with AVID methodologies to prepare students with key skills they will need in the 21st century to be college and career ready. Participants will use AVID’s digital learning framework, the 4 A’s (Adopt, Adapt, Accelerate and Advocate), to define a pathway toward meaningfully integrating digital strategies that leverage Microsoft for Education apps and WICOR for the purpose of enhancing and extending student learning.
Digital Teaching and Learning—Advancing: Leadership
This leadership strand challenges school leaders to enhance the implementation of the AVID College Readiness System at their district/school through intentionally integrating digital teaching and learning strategies with AVID to positively impact the Instruction, Systems, Leadership, and Culture of their school community.
