Introduction
AVID Summer Institute™ transforms conceptual understandings into usable strategies that are intentional, purposeful, and replicable and that lead to student success. Summer Institute brings educators together to learn how to implement engaging activities in their classrooms, raise their level of commitment to student success, and thereby produce a learning environment where all students are equipped to tackle complex issues, problems, and information. Summer Institute is an in-person, engaging, and collaborative professional learning experience that supports educators to connect and network with others from across the nation. It is designed to help create unique professional learning experiences that are customized to the learning goals and needs of an individual site or district.
Your participation is contingent upon access to AVID technology platforms and tools. Please review the checklist below to ensure you have everything you need before starting your journey.
Before the Institute
Note your scheduled dates and times.
Check your event dates and the daily schedule so that you know when your event is taking place.
Ensure you are registered for the correct Community of Practice.
Refer to the AVID Professional Learning Guide for all Community of Practice titles and descriptions.
Complete your required eLearning Pre-Work.
As part of your AVID Summer Institute experience, all registrants are required to complete the eLearning Pre-Work, including the Technology Checklist, prior to attending.
You must access the course through the AVID eLearning platform.
- Visit the MyAVID home page.
- Click on the blue My eLearning button to access the eLearning platform.
- Click on your 2026–27 Summer Institute course title.
- This will take you to your Community of Practice course home page.
To access your Pre-Work module,
- Click on the Pre-Work icon link and follow the directions on the Pre-Work landing page.
You will have access to your Community of Practice course and the Pre-Work module at least 7 days before the start of your event.
Plan to bring your own digital device and headphones to the Institute.
All professional learning requires participants to have their own, fully charged laptop that can connect to the internet.
- Use an acceptable device and bring a power cord when attending the Community of Practice for an optimal experience.
- Acceptable devices - laptop, Chromebook, Surface device, or iPad Pro
- Unacceptable devices - iPad, iPad mini, Kindle or Galaxy tablet, or smartphone
- If you are using a district-issued device, log in to the device on the district network before attending.
- Update your device software and preferred web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, and Edge).
- Install (or have access to) at least two browsers on your device before the training.
AVID Center will not provide loaner devices for checkout, and a limited number of power charging stations will be available.
Request Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) support, if needed.
AVID Center is committed to making our events accessible. If you require special devices, have medically necessary dietary restrictions, or need assistance per ADA guidelines, please submit your request at least 2 weeks before your AVID Summer Institute begins. It is important that we have this information before Summer Institute, so we can better assist you when you arrive.
Print your name badge at home 3 days prior to the Institute to skip the check-in line.
Community of Practice and Site Team meeting rooms will be listed on your badge. You will receive an email with badge printing directions 3 days prior to the event.

During the Institute
New to AVID or Leading Site Teams Pre-Sessions
AVID 101: We are offering an opportunity for Summer Institute attendees new to AVID to attend an AVID 101 pre-session on-site. AVID 101 is an optional pre-session open to anyone who is registered for Summer Institute; it does not require any additional registration. If you are unable to attend, you can also learn about AVID 101 asynchronously.
Leading Site Teams: Site leaders—including principals and Site Coordinators—play a critical role in guiding effective Site Team collaboration. The Leading Site Teams session provides leaders the opportunity to prepare for Site Team work at Summer Institute. Learn more on our Leading Site Teams website.
These pre-sessions are offered at Summer Institute the day before the event (Day 0) at 4:00–5:30 pm. Please bring your charged device to fully engage in these sessions.
Join your AVID Summer Institute Community of Practice in person.
Access all your related resources available through the AVID eLearning platform. Go to the MyAVID home page and click on the blue My eLearning button to access the eLearning platform and select your 2026–27 Summer Institute course tile. This will take you to your Community of Practice home page. To access your community of practice content, click on the CoP link on the home page.
Site Teams

General Session: The AVID Experience
On Day 2 of your Summer Institute, you won’t want to miss General Session, where the AVID community will gather to celebrate and hear inspiring stories from AVID students and educators.
After the Institute
In order to receive your Digital Badge, you must complete the following:
- Submit all daily feedback forms, the SI End of Professional Learning Participant Reflection form, and the SI Exit Survey before the end of the last training day. Your feedback is essential and helps AVID create relevant and meaningful professional development sessions for partners.
- Attend all sessions and actively engage in the course activities. 100% attendance is required.
- Once you have completed all your feedback, you will need to open the Requesting Your AVID Digital Badge page to trigger the badging process. Please allow 24 hours for your badge email to be sent and for your badge to become available. The Digital Badge can be shared with others to confirm successful completion of the course. Badges can be added to email signatures, portfolios, and social media accounts. If your district requires a printed certificate, you can also print a Certificate of Completion as proof of your professional learning. You can follow these instructions to download and print your certificate.

AVID Media Release
By attending AVID face-to-face or online events, you grant to AVID and its legal representatives, agents, licensees, and assigns, the right and permission to use, publish, sell, and license videos, pictures, written work, or recordings of you or in which you may be included, in whole or in part, without restriction, in conjunction with your own or fictitious name, in any and all media now or hereafter known for any purpose whatsoever, and you waive any right of publicity, copyright, or other intellectual property right from the aforementioned use.
AVID System Status Dashboard for System Outages
