Cultivating Writing Schoolwide: Elementary (2026–27)
Starting in June 2026

Cultivating Writing Schoolwide: Elementary empowers elementary educators across all content areas to elevate writing as a tool for learning, thinking, and student agency. Participants will explore the AVID Focused Note-Taking, Critical Reading, and Writing Processes while engaging with the four academic modes of writing: descriptive, narrative, expository, and persuasive. This course emphasizes metacognitive writing and disciplinary literacy, helping students write like content experts. Through collaborative strategies and the AVID College and Career Readiness Framework, educators will leave equipped to cultivate confident, capable writers in every classroom.

Cultivating Writing Schoolwide: Elementary builds on foundational AVID professional learning. Participants should engage with this CoP after a prior AVID professional learning experience.
